the quickest way to apply is online at www.gov.uk/postgraduateloan you don’t need to have a confirmed place at university to apply. you should apply using your preferred choice of course - you can always update this later if you need to. before you start your online application, you should have the following to hand: valid uk passport (if you have one), university and course details, bank account details, and national insurance number once you start your application you can save it at any time and go back to complete it later.

you can apply for a postgraduate loan from late june. you should apply as early as possible once the application service is open to make sure your postgraduate loan is in place for the start of your course. we can’t process your application until we have all the information and evidence we’ve asked for. in most cases it’s easy for you to provide all the details we need by simply filling in all the details on your application. for example, your valid uk passport details give us the information we need to confirm your identity. in certain circumstances you may have to send more evidence. if you do, we’ll let you know what you need to send. you should send any information or evidence we ask for as soon as possible so your application isn’t delayed.

if you applied online, you should print the declaration form, sign it and return it to us as soon as possible. once we’ve assessed your application, we’ll send you a postgraduate loan entitlement letter confirming how much postgraduate loan you’re getting. you should keep this letter safe as you might have to show it to your university when you register. if your personal details, course or university changes you must let us know. you can make changes to your personal details by logging in to your account at www.gov.uk/postgraduateloan before you start your course. if any of your university or course details change, or if you want to change the amount of postgraduate loan you’ve requested, you’ll need to download a change of circumstances form.

this form is available to download from www.gov.uk/postgraduateloan we’ll send you a payment schedule to let you know when you’ll be paid. once you’ve registered on your course we’ll pay your postgraduate loan into your bank account in three instalments each year.
